How to Choose a Wine Club

Chosing a wine club can be a daunting task, especially if you are new to wine clubs. You have to find a club that is priced well and includes a variety of wine which is of high quality. Also, many wine clubs offer free gifts for first time members, making it a tough choice of which club to go with.

The three wine clubs above are our most popular clubs and they get a lot of attention from viewers. However, if you are still not sure which wine club is right for you, take a look at all of our wine clubs listed on this site, starting with the best to worst, by clicking here.

Different Wine Club Options

Wine Clubs often offer a variety of options, which include red wine clubs, white wine clubs, and much more. When looking at getting a wine club, the first thing people look at is price, but we here at e-wineclubs.com like to consider price and a number of other factors to evaluate the overall value you are getting. Wine clubs with the best value make it to the top of our list, whether or not their prices are the lowest. Having a low price definitely doesn't hurt and it often helps increase the value slightly, but if the wine is not good then forget it.

If you are fond of a certain type of wine like only red wine or only white wine, you can browse our selection of red wine clubs or white wine clubs, depending on your preference.

Wine clubs like the Cellars Wine Club, placed at number three on our list, even offer a larger variety of options for wine consumers. For example, Cellars has a Sparkling Champagne Club and even a Sweet Wine Club.

Tips When Buying a Wine Club

When buying a wine club, there are many important things you should be aware of because not all wine clubs are created equal. I've tried a ton of wine club and from my experience, I can tell you what really makes a wine club a great all around experience.

Things to Consider when Buying a Wine Club:

  • Wine Quality
  • Price
  • Tasting Notes/Newsletter
  • Freebies for New Members
  • Wine Varieties
  • Customer Service/Shipping

Obviously, you want a wine club that has good tasting wine. If the club has wine which stinks, then it doesn't matter what the price is because it will not be worth it. The good news is that most wine clubs do have wine that is good. Stumbling across a wine club with bad wine would be hard to do. Finding a wine club that has good wine for a good price is the difficult challenge, but with our help, you can easily do that.

So besides having wine that is good, what else you should expect from a wine club? Well, I prefer a variety, especially since most people trying wine clubs are looking to experience the different kinds of wine out there. That's why you should make sure you won't get shipped Merlot every single month. There are so many different grape varieties out there, why limit yourself to only a few of them?

Next, you need to see if the wine club offers international wines or simply domestic. You don't want to be disappointed with wines only from California and Washington, do you? If not, you should see if the club offers some international selections as well, so you can start to taste the flavors of wine around the world. I prefer wine clubs that offer wine from both California and other parts of the world. Trying wines from around the world is a great experience, not to mention it is fun pulling out a great bottle of wine from Italy when you have friends or family over.

Information about your wine is extremely important or it isn't much of a wine club. Generally, most wine clubs comes with some sort of information about the wine you receive. This information typically comes in the form of a newsletter or tasting notes guide. You will be able to read about each bottle of wine, learning about what flavors and aromas you can expect from each bottle. Most newsletters will even suggest information about pairing the wine with foods and background information about the winery that the wine came from. When I received my first wine club, I didn't pay much attention to the tasting notes guide. But after a few bottles of wine, I decided to take a peek at it. After a few minutes of browsing through this information, I was amazed at how in depth and interesting the information was. I started attempting to identify the tastes and smells of the wine, as listed in the tasting notes, but failed miserably. I thought it just smelled like wine! LOL. After awhile, I was able to start identifing the flavors listed and then the aromas. Eventually, I started getting the tasting notes before even reading the guide. Not everyone will be able to do this but if you spend some time at it, you'll start to get the hang of it.
