white wine typesWhite wine types can vary greatly in taste, but they offer many similarities at the same time. If you want to learn more about the top white wine types, look no further. In this article, we'll dive into the top 5 white wine varieties out there.

To start off, let's look at one of the most popular white wine types out there, Chardonnay. Chardonnay is made all over the world and you would be surprised to taste the differences in Chardonnay from the different wine regions of the world. For example, in California, you will find more creamy Chardonnays with peach notes. In other parts of the world, you may taste major differences. If you are new to white wine, then Chardonnay is a great place to start.

Second, we have Pinot Grigio, another famously known white wine which is a big favorite in the United States. Italy and many parts of Europe tend to product the best Pinot Grigio, but great bottles are made around the world also. This wine is often classified as fresh and light. I enjoy pairing this wine with cheese and crackers.

Next, we have Sauvignon Blanc, a very crisp white wine, grown all around the world, but mostly in New Zealand. This wine is usually best drunk while young and doesn't require as much aging as other white wines.

Riesling is another white wine favorite which has a very loyal following of white wine lovers that believe this is the finest grape out there. This wine carries a bit more acidity than most white wines and comes best from regions like Germany and Australia. I enjoy pairing this wine with chicken dinners.

Finally, we have Viognier, not as heavily produced at the first four white wine types on our list, this wine is made in smaller quantities in California and South America. You will often experience apricot notes and blossom notes which can be quite different than the other white wines on this list. If you are looking for a new experience in white wines, try a Viognier!
