red wine types

There are many red wine types out there, but 5 wine types stand out more than most. They are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah, and Tempranillon. Let's take a look at each one of these wine varieties in this article:

First off, Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the most recognized red wine types and is very popular in California regions. The grapes are quite thick-skinned and therefore are easy to grow in many regions around the world. You will sometimes experience pencil lead flavors, deep colors, and sometimes hints of oak since that is what the wine is most commonly aged in.

Next, we have Pinot Noir, another famous red wine type that has been pleasing taste buds for centuries. These grapes are thin-skinned, unlike Cabernet Sauvignon, and therefore need a bit of a cooler climate to grow. You can often experience flavors of cherry, raspberry, and violets in this wine.

Merlot is another well-known red wine type around the globe and has become more popular over the past decade. This wine is known for its smooth, plum taste which is quite pleasing. Chile is known for producing some of the best Merlot's around.

Syrah is the fourth most popular red wine grape type which is popular because of the black pepper, blackberry, and spice you get out of most bottles. This wine is best frow in Australia, but is made around the globe, even in the US. If you are looking for something different to try, look no further than a Syrah or Shiraz wine.

Finally, we have Tempranillo, which is most widely grown in Spain. This wine grape type can produce impressive wine and has a red berry character which makes the wine very enjoyable. If you have't tried a Tempranillo wine yet, I recommend you add it to your grocery list!
